G4966.)KRIEGSMARINE SHIPBOARD BAROMETER: this is an aneroid barometer versus a mercury barometer. In a really good state of preservation. 5" wide glass face, silver finished steel frame with mounting holes. Dial has intact needle and is marked with millibars (barometric pressure readings)Note the national eagle swastika on the face along with letter 'M' for marine (naval) use. With printed letters 'mb' for millibars. The advantages of an aneroid barometer for shipboard use (versus a mercury barometer) are as follows: no liquid inside (mercury), doesn't have to be level or stabile in order to have an accurate reading, better a measuring subtle pressure changes, error-free and more accurate. WWII German navy shipboard instruments are rare....most are at the bottom of the sea. EXC++++

I did some research on aneroid barometers and I believe that this one still functions. At present the weather here in Florida is fair and clear, no humidity (rare), dry and calm. Perfect weather. This 80+ year-old KM barometer is currently reading 1030mb barometric pressure, which is matches up with the Florida Weather Service's mercury values for today.
