G4999.)FREIKORPS ANTI-COMMUNIST SERVICE CROSS: one of the few varieties found of these, known in German as the Orden und Ehrenzeichen der Deutsche-Russischen Westarmee (The orders and badges of the German-Russian Western Army). Refer to Niemann's work Orders and Decorations of Germany 1871-1945  (pages 99-100) for illustrations of several of these. This was the western army composed of both Germans and anti-communist Russians (White Russians) who fought the Bolsheviks in eastern Prussia and the Baltics. Finely glass-enameled 35mm wide cross on fine silver base. With Freikorps totenkopf skull and bones in center. Reverse is marked with maker's initials 'KM' (Konigliche Munzamt Stuttgart=Royal Mint at Stuttgart) and die-struck serial number '154'. Clean black ribbon with gold metallic borders. EXC++++
