US4908.)WWII M-1 HELMET WITH USMC CAMOUFLAGE COVER: nice period helmet all around, clean. Front-seam shell with fixed (welded) chin strap loops (dates helmet to pre-November 1943). Finished with a rough, cork aggregate finish....OD shade #7. Wear too around the rim as is typical with these. Chin strap is early type light khaki shade #3 and has worn OD finished hook-and-claw release buckle. Nice WWII liner, Seaman Paper Company marked inside crown (stylized letter 'S' logo). Has its original light khaki shade webbing, snap-in neck nape harness in rear. Pigskin leather sweat band -- coffee-with-cream shade is original for sure but it's pristine, never seen any use. Has its original brown leather chin strap snugly fitted over shell's front visor. Original period USMC camouflage cover -- no EGA stencil -- that's been examined by a number of experts and approved as original. Oh, it's 'been there' so to speak....it's sun faded and worn, a few minor holes here and there. Note that this cover displays several features that positively indicate that it's original period: the color splotches don't touch and are separated by the proper borders plus the brown side central seam is elaborately chain-stitched as it should be. Ask for up-close photos of the cover colors and the seams. EXC++++
Note: the finish on the shell was re-done during the Korean War when thousands of World War Two M-1 helmets were recalled and reconditioned. The Korean War finish is worn and aged too as is the original WWII finish which is evident below. The canvas chin strap too was replaced Korean War era so the chin strap and fittings in place is worn and aged a bit for KW use.
