US481.)EARLY U.S. FEDERAL ERA ARMY/MILITIA OFFICER'S SWORD: a wonderful early American officer's sword circa 1800-1830 Federal Period. Eagle-head pommel common to the era, a superb piece of early Americana. 36" long overall with a fine natural steel blade which is now a dark gray from years of toning, nice patina. Brass hilt with that characteristic eagle head pommel and 'P' shaped guard. Note too the detailed acanthus on the ferrule. Grip is genuine bone and is cross-marked with grip lines. Contour is made to fit the hand's grip. One insignificant hairline to the bone and a smaller chip near the eagle's head. This gem sword is a treasure. Check out other American militaria web sites (take a look at Ebay too) for comparable pieces and prices. Our price is really very reasonable for such a classic American sword. EXC++++
