US3628.)CASED NAME-ENGRAVED KOREAN WAR AIR MEDAL: named to USAF pilot who died in North Korean captivity. Comes with several pages of printed information concerning this pilot and his having been shot down over Korea, his capture and death. A fine example of the Air Medal with period slot-brooch pin back mounting. Large silver Oak Leaf Cluster on ribbon for total of five awards. Comes in black leatherette case having gold printed title on lid 'AIR MEDAL'. Matching pin-back ribbon bar with silver Oak Leaf Cluster, enameled lapel device for civilian attire. Government issue machine engraved on the back with his name 'HARRISON C. JACOBS'. Accompanying paperwork shows that 1st Lt. Jacobs, USAF flew an F-80 Shooting Star fighter out of Kimpo, Korea airfield and  was shot down over Kwaksan, Korea on December 27, 1950. He was on a strafing mission while covering the retreat of the US Army's 2nd Infantry Division. Shows that he was attacked by two MiGs, damaged and after heading out to sea to bail out was captured and taken prisoner. He died in captivity and was officially proclaimed a casualty in December 1953. EXC++++
