US4126.)CIVIL WAR UNION VETERAN'S GAR ENCAMPMENT COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL: a spectacular multipiece award commemorating the 34th National Encampment of the GAR held at Chicago in 1937. Massive decoration for a GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) delegate, 5" tall overall with yellow silk ribbon intact and perfect. Has massive gold clasp at top showing Lady Liberty and American eagle. Heavy pin-back clasp. Pendent itself is multi-piece with separately applied gold frosted GAR star device and glass enameled letters 'G A R'. Glass enameled base is cross American flags with yellow glass enameled background, gold lettering '34th NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT'. Note too the gold suspension bar above with 'DELEGATE'. Glass enameled coin-like pendent in center of ribbon with Chicago city seal and blue enameling 'City of Chicago'. Reverse of lower pendent is marked crisply with Chicago maker 'Childs, Co.'. In a superb+ state of preservation. EXC++++
