G4996.)GERMAN ARMY ARTILLERY OFFICER'S VISOR CAP: a great-looking original cap that's had some restoration workmanship done to it. Displays a really fine profile and shape, high peak. Tailored of a quality German army field gray herring-bone-twill wool and piped around the crown and around the upper/lower dark green badge cloth wool cap band with dark green wool. I'd say that the cockade and wreath are original to this cap, no holes through the lining inside. Wreath is frosted silver alloy -- really good looking -- eagle is typical stamped aluminum. Silver bullion officer's chin cord is fastened at sides with silver pebbled buttons. The buttons have been moved and repositioned slightly, there's faint evidence of this. Black patent leather visor with brown, checkered underside. Visor is original to this cap. Inside has brown oil cloth lining and intact moisture shield which is the original clear celluloid type. Size marked '54 1/2'. Brown leather sweat band is a replacement and is professionally zig-zag machine sewn in place. Scattered moth nibbling to the piping not detracting at all.
